Play Le Master

At present we have three Masters who have offered to play against members of LeChess Club immediately followed by an analysis session.  These games are a great opportunity for members to play against and learn from a master.  The many observers also get to discuss the game during play (in whisper mode) and after play (in kibitz mode) where you can ask the master questions on any aspect of the game he has just played.

FM Diego Mussanti (Finger clalauquen) plays 15 5 at 19:00 (ICC time) on Mondays

IM  Till Wippermann (Finger Polydamas) plays 15 5 at 16:00 (ICC time ) on Tuesdays

NM Augusto Caruso (Finger  AugustoCaruso) plays 15 5 at 14:00 (ICC time) on Wednesdays

If you would like to Play the Master then message LeChessClub "I would like to play <master's name> on <date>" Requests will be dealt with on a “first come first served” basis.

FM Diego Mussanti (clalauquen)

Diego Mussanti first started playing chess for fun with his father at the tender age of 5 years old.  At the age of 12 he joined a chess school in his home city where he developed his tactical awareness with a good degree of success. At 18 Diego became a student of civil engineering in La Plata but he was never far from a chess board and it was during this time that he realised that the study of openings and and a development of strategic ideas were just as important as his tactical awareness.  His efforts were rewarded in 1992 when he became the Champion of La Plata and he beat Kasparov in a simul. In 1994 he became state champion and also earned his FM title.

Diego spent time away from chess to pursue his career as a civil engineer and, due to inactivity, was dropped from the FIDE rating lists where his last recorded rating was 2323.

After several years Diego returned to the chess board and became a member of the Internet Chess Club. He is now an official vendor who draws on his experiences as an engineer to teach his students using logic as a method to demonstrate his points.

IM Till Wippermann (Polydamas)

Till was brought into contact with the game of chess at an early age by his father and uncles who were avid amateur players and used to follow and analyse the great Karpov-Kasparov matches far into the night hours. Little Till soon shared their fascination with the game and played his first tournament in his home town of Hanover at the age of 9.

Soon afterwards he received regular lessons from the well-known chess author and youth coach IM Alexander Bangiev. This proved fruitful when Till shared first place at the German U13 championship in 1993. Development continued slowly but steadily, and Till was a solid 2200 player when he moved to Heidelberg to study law in 1998. However, instead of concentrating on his studies, he turned more and more towards chess. In 2001 he recieved the FM title and four years later achieved his final IM norm. The same year his club SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim promoted to Bundesliga where Till spent a year on top board facing some of the world's best players. Despite some respectable results over the years he ultimately learned that he was not born to be a chess pro and turned back to studying in 2008, this time economics. He considers himself retired from tournament chess but still enjoys the game from the connoisseur's point of view.

Till has been a LeChessie for almost ten years now, producing several series of lectures over the years. Apart from the occasional impromptu simul he holds a weekly Play the Master event, always eager to follow the Horacian motto "prodesse et delectare".

NM Augusto Caruso (AugustoCaruso)

Augusto started playing chess in 1971 and has never stopped.  He has been a National Master since 1991, became the Italian Champion UISP in 1993 and in 2002 he won the international tournament in Mogliano Veneto.

More recently he has worked as a chess publisher, of reviews and books and, along with WGM Martha Fierro Baquero and IM Roberto Mogranzini, Augusto cofounded the International Chess Academy (http://www.accademiainternazionalediscacchi.com/).

He lives in Perugia, Italy, where he spends his time teaching chess to young students.
